It appears, at least from the Italian side of things, that a deal sending Romelu Lukaku to Juventus and Dusan Vlahovic to Chelsea could be getting closer.

Gazzetta dello Sport are the ones reporting the positive news on Monday, as they explain that such a deal would be ‘advantageous from an economic point of view’, it also is from a tactical aspect for Max Allegri.

The Chelsea player would allow for a more counter-attacking style of football, capable of both holding up and running onto balls, and also has more experience than the Serbian.

They point out that Vlahovic ‘needs time’ to confirm his status as a top striker in Serie A, while Lukaku, when fit, has already shown he can be that man as he helped Inter Milan lift the Serie A trophy under Antonio Conte before his big, and failed, Stamford Bridge return.

This is why, with all these potential benefits for Juventus, those above Allegri have ‘accepted’ the arguments and why they have ‘started negotiating’ with Chelsea.

The belief is ‘the deal will be done’, and even perhaps ‘as early as this week’.

For that to happen, though, Juventus would need to be ‘financially satisfied’ by Chelsea, as Cristiano Giuntoli asks for €40m + Lukaku to get a deal done, while the Blues ‘have so far reached €20m’.

Meanwhile, over at Corriere dello Sport, it’s ‘the hour of truth’ in these negotiations, with the deal ‘nearing its epilogue’.

The distance between the two clubs ‘is not huge’, and there is hope that one phone call is all that’s left for everyone to agree on a transfer.

Lukaku is himself keen to start at his new club, and all parties ‘worked to get even closer’ over the weekend.

From experience, when Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere dello Sport agree this much on something, there tends to be some fire behind all the smoke.
