Earlier on Wednesday, we covered an article on De Telegraaf’s website where they tried to scare Spurs fans by reporting Brexit was ‘harming’ Tottenham’s chances of signing Davinson Sanchez.
We won’t go back into it (if you want to read it, click on the link above), and instead return to the football side of things, where the very same newspaper, this time in their print edition, claim the centre-back has reached an agreement with Tottenham.
De Telegraaf state the 21-year-old is ready to put pen to paper on a five-year deal once both clubs settle on the transfer fee, which remains the big issue here.
The Dutch newspaper report Ajax are asking for €50m while Tottenham are not prepared to go beyond €40m, and, as of yesterday, there was no sign this was about to change anytime soon.
Once again, they bring up the fluctuating value of the pound as an issue for Spurs, and explain Ajax could turn to Chelsea’s and Real Madrid’s interest in the Colombian instead, seemingly hinting that the Blues aren’t as affected by Brexit as their London rivals.
Down his end, the player is said to have reluctantly told Ajax about his desire to join Tottenham after having a chat with Mauricio Pochettino, leading him to train to one side from the main group ‘under the false pretext of a slight knee injury’.
At least De Telegraaf are honest…
As for whether he’ll be able to play in Thursday’s Europa League playoff against Rosenborg, De Telegraaf say that’s up to the manager.
