Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos has one year left on his contract and he has been repeatedly linked with a move to Arsenal.

Bild earlier reported the Bundesliga outfit are looking to strengthen their defence and planning to bring in a new player in the central defending position. For this to happen, they would allow the 29-year-old leave the club this summer, and it was claimed he was on the verge of moving to Arsenal.

Kicker now claims Papastathopoulos wants to join the Premier League club this summer. He has decided to follow the footsteps of his former Dortmund teammates, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Arsenal. The latter two moved to the Emirates in January.

Reports in England suggest the north London club are ready to pay only €15m for the Greek international. However, Kicker claims Dortmund are demanding a fee of €18m to sanction Papastathopoulos’ sale, whilst €20m had been reported earlier.

Germany’s Waz had thrown a curveball into the pursuit last week, claiming Manchester United interest, but they’ve said nothing since and Jose Mourinho’s men aren’t being picked up in the other German reports.
