Crystal Palace have been presented as an option for Borja Mayoral repeatedly by the Italian media. The claims go back well over a month and have recently been echoed in England, with it thought the Real Madrid owned striker is an option for the Eagles.
The 24-year-old joined AS Roma in October 2020, on a loan deal which was meant to last for two seasons, with the view to it becoming a permanent transfer.
So far this season, the player has had 26 minutes of Serie A action, and it’s becoming quite clear that he’s not in the plans of Roma manager Jose Mourinho. Therefore, it’s apparent there’s little chance of the club using their buying option, and a move in the January window could suit everyone involved.
According to La Nazione, Crystal Palace have €10m ‘on the plate’ for a January transfer, meaning their bid for the player is ready.
Whether that is actually made, allowing Borja Mayoral to cut his loan period short, remains to be seen.
For a while, the Italian media have insisted Fiorentina is the likelier option, with Palace routinely dragged in as the compulsory Premier League competition.
AS Roma and Real Madrid would, of course, have to sort out their end of the deal before any move can happen.
