As has been the trend over the past couple of months, Olivier Giroud is reportedly Marseille’s number one striker target this summer, as the Ligue 1 club try to rebuild a squad capable of challenging the top of the table.
The Arsenal striker’s agent recently quashed a story from France Football, explaining his client had never been in contact with Rudi Garcia, the French side’s manager, but also couldn’t discard a potential move in the summer.
After all, the Gunner has spent most of the season on the bench at the Emirates, and, even if he recently signed a new contract, could look elsewhere in the upcoming transfer window for more consistent time on the pitch.
This is where Marseille are perfect for him, wanting a new marquee signing to take the club to new heights, a profile Giroud fits perfectly with his France international status.
France Football this week push this story even further, throwing in the fact the Arsenal striker is an ambassador for Puma, who recently bought the rights to make Marseille’s shirts form next season onwards.
With two years left on his Arsenal contract, the French magazine reckon the London club value their 30-year-old goalscorer at €25m, a fee the Ligue 1 club have already shown they are prepared to spend when the brought back Dimitri Payet from West Ham in January.
Speaking of the former Hammer, Giroud would match Payet’s wages at Marseille were he to join, which is a four-year contract worth €7m/season.
