Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb today managed to get some interesting details on the situation that Tottenham Hotspur defender Japhet Tanganga went through in the summer window and previously.

The 24-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Torino back then, but with an agreement never happening, he ended up joining Bundesliga side Augsburg on loan with an option to buy.

The reason Tanganga was brought up is that TMW managed to have an interview with market agent Roberto De Fanti.

The intermediary ended up revealing that the defender could have been involved in a bigger move last year, but former Tottenham boss Antonio Conte stopped that from happening. He then saw other opportunities for a move this summer.

“His arrival (to Torino) was linked to an exit. The negotiation began when Buongiorno was about to go to Atalanta: Vagnati has always had a great passion for Tanganga, a defender who debuted with Mourinho and also played with Conte, who blocked his transfer to AC Milan in 2022.

“It then happened that Buongiorno did not go to Atalanta and the negotiation fell through. In the end we defined the transfer on loan with the right of redemption to Augsburg, a German club very oriented to take players from the Premier League.”

Tanganga joined Augsburg on deadline day, and reports at the time claimed the German club paid Tottenham €1m for the loan, as well as having the obligation to buy him in case conditions are met. Those are related to the club’s stay in the top flight, or the number of appearances he has for them this season.

The problem is that the player is currently injured, and is still to make his debut for his new club.
