As much of the Spanish, and specifically Catalan, media reports settle on the idea of Mesut Ozil being first Coutinho reserve, a Friday column from Sport has things another way.
Ozil has been ‘put in the fridge’, say Sport, which doesn’t mean they’re keeping him fresh to eat later on in the week, but rather that his transfer is somewhat frozen.
Just as Coutinho’s transfer presents problems for Barcelona, so does that of Ozil, with the column stating his financial demands are simply ‘unacceptable’. With it thought the Arsenal star is asking for €19m per season from his next club, Sport say it’d be an ‘impossible challenge’.
Now only that, even if Barcelona wanted to pay such a salary, there’s worry over whether Ozil would fit in with the club’s dressing room. This is why Ozil ‘doesn’t meet all the requirements’ for Barcelona right now.
Things could change, and it’s stated getting Ozil from Arsenal wouldn’t be too much of a problem. But, for now, and at least from this one Sport column, Ozil is slipping down the list.
