One of the more frustrating sagas of the January transfer window for Arsenal fans, the non-arrival of Arthur is now a thing of the past.

Juventus wanted an 18-month loan for the Brazilian, something the Gunners reportedly considered, and were almost prepared to do, but it appears no official offer arrived on the Serie A side’s table.

With the midfielder now set to stay in Turin for the foreseeable future, Tuttosport look back at what happened, with it reminded that a loan was ‘the only plausible option’ for any interested party.

Since it was ‘impossible to think of a willingness on the part of the Gunners to buy Arthur’, there was hope the 18-month deal would have been enough to entice them, to no avail.

The outlet explain the English side ‘didn’t particularly insist on having the player’ for that length of time, and ‘in the end common sense prevailed’.

By that, they mean he will now ‘remain with the hope of being more central in Allegri’s project and perhaps be more attractive on the market in June’.
