FC Schalke moving for Burnley outcast Darko Churlinov in January would ‘spark great euphoria’ at the club but may not be a smart transfer idea.

That’s according to Der Westen, who cover a potential return for Churlinov today and the positives and negatives of it.

They explain that the relationship between Churlinov and Schalke is ‘a love story that doesn’t yet want to find great happiness’.

He was the star of the show as the club secured promotion in 2021 but had to leave and joined Burnley, where he’s endured something if a miserable time since.

There have been rumours about a potential return since and it ‘took concrete shape’ in the summer before the North Macedonian became ill with blood poisoning and had to remain in England.

He’s fit again but still plays no role at Burnley, again prompting suggestions that he could make his way back to Schalke in some form or another.

Der Westen say that would be welcomed on one hand as hardly any other player has ‘fought and played his way so deeply’ in the hearts of Schalke fans.

Thus, a return in the middle of a difficult season for Schalke would ‘spark great euphoria’ among the Knappen fans, particularly as Churlinov would fill the need for an offensive player who can dribble.

He is also a promotion hero who knows the club, some of the players in the squad and wouldn’t need to adapt.

A loan could also be the right step for everyone, including Burnley, but the question is whether Churlinov, who played his last game in April, could make an impact for a side who need players that can perform immediately.

That’s a major doubt that will make Schalke question any potential move, even if the idea is an appealing one.
