Yangel Herrera is yet to make an appearance for Manchester City since joining them from Atlético Venezuela in 2017.

The midfielder has been away on loan at New York City FC, SD Huesca and Granada.

He joined the La Liga side on a temporary deal in 2019 and last summer, the 23-year-old’s loan stay was further extended until the end of this season.

Thursday’s edition of Sport reviews the Venezuela international’s time under the orders of Diego Martínez.

The newspaper explains the Citizens owned player’s first season with the Spanish club was ‘spectacular’ and he’s continued his good form into this campaign. He has eight goals and two assists in 43 matches in all competitions.

Granada have an option to make Herrera’s stay permanent for €20m, but this figure is ‘unaffordable’ for them.

Earlier this month, the South American revealed his desire is to make his mark at Manchester City, and today’s report states his goal is unlikely to be fulfilled next season.

Sport explain Granada will try to retain Herrera ‘by all means’ and will ‘seek some formula’ to convince both the player and Pep Guardiola’s side for a transfer in the next market.

Time will tell whether or not they’re successful.
