Everton could release Cenk Tosun on a free transfer in the January transfer window just to get rid of his £2.5m wages.
That’s according to A Haber, who pick up on rumours that Besiktas are ready to make a move to bring Tosun back to the club.
Tosun recently returned from a long-term knee injury which he picked up while on loan last season.
He was a part of Everton’s squad for the defeat to Wolves on Monday but how long he remains at Goodison Park is yet to be seen.
That’s because his contract expires at the end of the season, and there is no indication that Everton or the player want to extend their relationship.
A return to Besiktas could be a solution and reports yesterday indicated they are keen to make a move in the January transfer window.
What wasn’t known was what sort of deal would be struck, but A Haber say it could be a simple matter of Everton releasing the Turkish striker.
They say that Besiktas ‘will knock on Everton’s door’ and the club’s management ‘want to sign’ the striker if they can.
There will be an attempt in January, and rather than another loan deal, the club want to bring him back to the club ‘full time’.
That should be easy as his contract at Goodison Park expires in the summer, and there is a feeling that Everton are ‘ready’ to release him on a free transfer and thus free up his £2.5m a year wages in the process.
Much of it will rest on Tosun, but ‘there is talk’ that he could look at his status in the team and then give the green light to a mutual termination if it is clear he won’t get chances.
