Alaves are waiting to hear from Manchester United regarding Facundo Pellistri’s loan deal and whether they will end it prematurely.

That’s what Marca report today, explaining United have the option to ‘cancel the loan if they wish’ as part of an agreement in the player’s loan deal.

He moved to the Spanish club in the summer after a loan spell last season, with Manchester United keen for him to get regular first-team football and develop in Spain.

That deal can be ended early and ‘no matter what’ because Manchester United wrote a clause into the deal that gives them the option to do so if he did not play 1,000 minutes by December.

That has been the case, with the young forward only managing 674 minutes of action up to this point. That’s left Alaves ‘waiting’ to see what Manchester United will do regarding the matter.

As explained, they can cut the loan short if they wish, but that is a ‘less likely option’ after Alaves sacked Javi Calleja and hired José Luis Mendilibar.

Furthermore, Manchester United are ‘not convinced’ that Pellistri should be playing for their Under 23’s as his development would be better served at a more elite level, like La Liga.

Pellistri, meanwhile, is not interested in a move to the Championship or League One.

They need to make a decision on Pellistri’s future, then. A meeting with Alaves was planned for the end of 2021 to discuss the matter and the player’s ‘best interests’, but that ‘key meeting’ did not happen.

Pellistri was called from England this week to inquire about his recent positive Coronavirus test, but there was no discussion regarding his future.

That needs to happen, and both Alaves and Pellistri, who would like to continue their relationship, are waiting with bated breath to see what those in charge at Old Trafford decide.
