Eric García left Barcelona for Manchester City in 2017.

There have been claims the centre-back’s contract at the Etihad lasts until 2022.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the 19-year-old’s current deal runs down in 2021 and the La Liga winners are ‘very attentive’ to his situation at the club.

The duration left on his contract could ‘facilitate a hypothetical return’ to the Catalan club. A transfer could be possible this year if the youngster is available for an affordable fee or the Spanish champions would take the defender on a free transfer next summer.

The second option is only possible if the teenager decides against signing a new deal at City. Even though Barca are attentive, they would not be willing to invest a hefty fee to sign him.

The young defender’s entourage are aware he is on the agenda of his former club, more so if he is available for free in 2021. However, there has been no offer on the table from Quique Setién’s side.

Manchester City, on the other hand, view García as one for the future. The Premier League winners are not willing to let him leave and they also intend to offer him an extension.

García is satisfied with his progress under Guardiola, which has not only seen him make it to City’s first team, but also represent Spain’s U21 side at the age of 19.

Mundo state Barca are just following García, and there is ‘nothing serious’ at the moment. He could be an ‘option for them in 2021’.
