As well as the constant talk of Antonio Conte’s contractual situation at Tottenham, this week has been heavy on the Leonardo Bonucci to Spurs rumours.

It all stemmed from an Italian journalist who claimed the veteran defender would reunite with his former manager in London, creating a few waves in the process.

Some went with it, while others believed it was just a bit of smoke, but the general consensus was that it was hard to believe Bonucci, who only lasted a year in Milan when he last left Turin, would move to England.

Still, articles were written, and there was a (small) belief it could happen, especially with Juventus struggling under Max Allegri.

Calciomercato on Friday, however, have very different information, as they claim Bonucci and the Serie A side are ‘working to renew’ the contract of the 35-year-old.

His current deal expires in 2024, and ‘besides the rumours about the alleged interest of Tottenham’, the player’s desire is to stay put, regardless of their current situation.

The aim here would be to both extend the contract, but also reduce the wage, as his €7m/year are a bit hefty for a defender of his age, and the idea would be to add another year to the deal, spreading the wages in the process, thus reducing them to €4-5m/year instead.

As for Conte, it seems the only way for him to work with Bonucci again would be to leave Tottenham and return to Juventus.
