Anthony Martial is seen as an ‘impossible’ signing for Sevilla this summer when his loan deal from Manchester United comes to an end.

The Frenchman is currently on loan with the Spanish side, having joined in the January transfer window to get the regular playing time that wasn’t on offer at Old Trafford.

The move started brightly but has proven to be something of a disappointment, with Martial failing to make an impact or justify the money Sevilla have paid for him.

He was recently relieved of blame by Sevilla, director of football Monchi, who also admitted that there is a possibility they will seek a permanent move once the summer transfer window opens.

According to Marca, though, it is practically ‘impossible’ for that to happen, and the forward’s current wage packet is ‘unaffordable’ for the Spanish side.

They say that a permanent deal is a ‘desire more than a reality’ for sporting director Monchi, since there are several factors that would influence the deal but most importantly, the financial one.

At the moment, a transfer is ‘beyond the reach’ of Sevilla’s coffers, and Manchester United are not contemplating another loan deal for him.

The big issue for Sevilla is that they are planning something of a revolution of the squad in the summer, and that includes reducing an ‘immense wage bill’ that has been accumulating over the years and not been supplemented by major sales.

Slimming this down is the ‘main objective’, and that doesn’t fit with signing Martial, who earns €15m gross at Manchester United.

While the club convinced him to ‘make an effort’ and reduce his wages for six months, it is quite another task to convince him to do so on a long contract.

The highest-paid player at Sevilla is currently on almost half of what Martial learns at Old Trafford, which emphasises the scale of the challenge.

Then there’s the fact that Martial’s current Manchester United contract expires in 2024, and if United decide to sell this summer, they will ‘seek a major sale’, perhaps in England, where there are clubs with the money to match their demands.

Basically, Martial is out of reach for Sevilla on two fronts, and the numbers show that he will end his loan at Nervión and say goodbye, ‘practically, forever’.
