Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle are set to receive nearly €30m from Moises Caicedo’s €133m move from Brighton to Chelsea.
That’s according to Heraldo-Diario de Soria, who cover the transfer today as CD Numancia owner Michel Deller, who is also the owner of Independiente, looks set to pocket a fortune.
Caicedo finally completed his long gestating move to Chelsea earlier this week, with the Blues paying a Premier League record fee to sign the Ecuadorian after months of chasing his signature.
Heraldo explain that part of the deal saw Independiente retaining a 20% sell-on clause on the midfielder, hoping that he ‘would explode’ in the south of England and later be sold for a much higher figure.
That has certainly happened, with him enjoying a ‘meteoric rise’ and even causing Liverpool and Chelsea to battle over his signature this summer.
It was eventually the Blues that won the tug of war and thanks to their decision to pay a huge figure, Independiente are set to benefit. Their 20% (€26.6m) + the likely solidarity mechanisms means they ‘will pocket’ a figure ‘close to €30m’ for their share of the player.
That’s an important economic injection for Deller and his club, who have benefitted from a smart piece of foresight that has now turned into an incredible piece of business.
