Florin Andone’s loan spell at Cadiz from Brighton & Hove Albion has delved further into the mire after he was left out of the squad for the Copa del Rey.
Andone joined the Spanish side in the summer as they looked to add extra firepower to their squad this season.
The move has been nothing short of a disaster for him and the team, though, with him managing just three appearances this season and yet to score.
He’s sat on the bench for the last two games, defeats against Atletico Madrid and Getafe and was left out of the squad for the win over Athletic before that.
Several reports in Spain have made it clear Cadiz are determined to get rid and send him back to Brighton in January, and there was a further indication of that this week.
Portal Cadista explain that manager Álvaro Cervera had ‘made it clear’ he would be rotating his squad for the clash with Villa Fortuna this week.
It was a chance for the ‘less regular players’ to get their chance, and one of those should have been Andone.
However, he was left sitting on the bench for the first round clash, not even being given a single minute despite the rotation in the squad.
That was another ‘clear’ sign that he doesn’t count for Cadiz, with it ‘common’ for there to be rotation and players given their chance in the competition. The fact that Andone wasn’t is another clear demonstration that he’s not wanted.
The question now is whether Brighton will sanction an end to the loan deal, with them under no obligation to do so.
They don’t particularly want Andone either, so something will have to be worked out between both clubs if they are to find a solution that suits everyone, including the striker.
