Manchester United have gone cold on Joao Mario, according to Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere dello Sport.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve covered multiple reports about a potential ‘swap deal’ for the Portuguese midfielder that would see Henrikh Mkhitaryan go the other way.

Corriere were the first to report it, but Gazzetta, who claimed the story came from England, said Inter denied it about a week later.

Well, on Monday, both mention the possible deal, yet neither seem very confident Joao Mario will be going the other way.

Gazzetta don’t mess around, stating José Mourinho simply doesn’t want the Portugal international, while Corriere are a bit nicer about it, suggesting it might just be a tactic from Manchester United, although to what end, they don’t know.

The latter of the two provide the most detail on the alleged situation, claiming Inter’s director of football is working ‘hard’ on trying to get a deal for Mkhitaryan sorted, having already contacted Mino Raiola multiple times.

Clearly unhappy with the Armenian, José Mourinho is said to be against the 28-year-old leaving on loan, seemingly preferring to be rid of him once and for all.

There’s bound to be more on this as the week goes on.
