Newcastle United have the option to bring Isaac Hayden back to the club from Standard Liege this month but are yet to suggest they will do so.
That’s according La Dernière Heure, who say the Belgian club have not yet heard from Newcastle regarding the midfielder.
Reports over the last few weeks have indicated that Newcastle may look to bring Hayden back to the club after he left on loan in the summer.
At that point he was not a part of Eddie Howe’s plans, particularly following the big money purchase of Sando Tonali from AC Milan, but his subsequent ban for betting offences and an ongoing injury crisis has somewhat changed that idea.
La Dernière Heure cover that today and explain that Standard have ‘not yet heard’ from Newcastle regarding the midfielder but the chances of him returning to St James Park are real.
For that to happen the Magpies must first find him a ‘new home base’. That presumably means they need to find him somewhere to live in the North East if he is to return, or a new club if they just want him elsewhere.
In the meantime, the Englishman is still expected to rejoin the Belgian side in Marbella for their post-winter training camp but whether that will happen is not certain at this point.
