Sampdoria have ‘not lost sight’ of Leeds United defender Diogo Monteiro and believe he could be secured on a loan deal.

That’s according to Samp News 24, who say a flexible formula for the 18-year-old could convince the Italian side to make a move for him.

The website explains that one of the names ‘circulating’ for Sampdoria as they look to strengthen their defence is that of Monteiro.

Sampdoria’s management have ‘not lost sight’ of the youngster, who has been at Leeds since a move from Servette in the January transfer window.

His young age and not excessively high price, in fact he would be available on loan with a right to buy, are factors that could convince Sampdoria to ‘strike’.

The Leeds man is not the only one they are looking at, with Xavier Mbuyamba of Volendam and Pantelis Hatzidiakos of AZ Alkmaar.

Whether the youngster, who is yet to feature in Leeds’ first team, is interested in the switch isn’t mentioned, nor is the Whites’ interest in potentially letting him go.

Sampdoria, likely through Andrea Radrizzani, are keen, though, and so he’s a name to keep an eye on moving forwards.
