Atalanta intend to sell Ben Godfrey back to English football this summer, with his move from Everton last summer not working out.

That’s according to Il Giorno, who report that Atalanta ‘will have to place’ Godfrey in British football again once his loan at Ipswich Town comes to an end.

The defender joined Atalanta from Everton in €10m deal in the summer after struggling under Sean Dyche but his spell in Italy has not worked out and he was loaned back to the Premier League, to Ipswich Town, in the January transfer window.

That loan is unlikely to be made permanent as Kieran McKenna’s side look destined to head back to the Championship. That will leave Atalanta looking for a new destination for the former Everton man and the hope is they can find an English suitor.

The recent appointment of John Murtough as their Director of Global Development will see the Italian club use him and his connections in England to focus on selling players to the Premier League this summer. Godfrey is one of them.

His move from Everton simply hasn’t worked out and he will be a part of the ‘Bergamo-England market axis’ that the Italian side are planning this summer.
