Real Sociedad are ‘keeping a close eye’ on Tottenham youngster Bryan Gil, who is a long-standing target for the club.

That’s according to AS, who say the Spaniard is a ‘long-standing desire’ for director of football Robert Olabe, who could move to try and secure him this summer.

The newspaper explains that the Spanish were already interested in Gil last summer before he ended up at Tottenham in a deal that saw Erik Lamela go the other way to Sevilla.

Spurs ‘put a lot of money on the table’ to sign the forward, with the €25m plus Lamela deal something that was ‘unaffordable’ for Sociedad.

They’ve retained an interest in the player, though, and even asked Tottenham for a loan deal in January when it was clear the youngster would be moving out.

He, though, picked Valencia instead, a deal that worked out well for all parties as Gil established himself as a key player under Jose Bordalas and got the regular playing time that he needed to further his development.

That deal has come to an end, and while Valencia would like to keep him next season, it’s been made clear Tottenham are looking at alternative options.

One of them could be Real Sociedad, who still have the player on their agenda as they look for a replacement for Adnan Januzaj and someone to cover for Mikel Oyarzabal’s injury.

That man could be Gil, and it seems they are exploring the possibility of making a move and getting Olabe a player he has long been a fan of.
