Werder Bremen are having a little panic over Tahith Chong. Reports over the past few days from Germany have made a deal for the Manchester United player sound very close.

There had been talk about a two year loan deal, with Werder having no buying option at the end of the period. It was even reported Chong could leave Manchester United early, and not be available for the rest of the Europa League, so he could join the Bundesliga club’s preseason training from Friday.

Now Bild say Werder have the ‘jitters’. They want to loan the player as soon as possible, but the transfer is beginning to ‘drag’.

Club chief Frank Baumann is quoted as saying: “There is still a lot to be clarified. I’ve been in business long enough to know that a transfer like this can fail because of many things.

“It has not yet been decided and there is still no final agreement between the various parties. But we’re working on winning Tahith over so that he can play in the Werder jersey this season.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given the green light to the transfer, however, there still remains the issue of when it would be completed. Should Manchester United insist on keeping Chong until the end of the Europa League, then he’d miss much of Werder’s preparation.

That also gives Werder worry over whether other clubs could see the situation unfolding and decide to make their own move for the player. Maybe Werder shouldn’t have been so public about the negotiations.
