Tuesday saw claims come from both AS and Marca, published at around the same time, that Real Madrid are considering keeping Dani Ceballos in their squad for next season, and that they’ll be looking to take him back for preseason.

Spending the last season on loan at Arsenal, there had been repeat talk of the midfielder returning to the Gunners, either on another loan or permanent deal, or potentially signing for Real Betis.

Now, Madrid’s stance is presented as being more firm, and in their Wednesday edition, AS say that ‘just a month ago’ Arsenal’s chances of signing the player again were ‘high’. He’d have spent another year on loan in London, however, his good form towards the end of the season has changed everything.

Ceballos would join Real Madrid for preseason, and then Zinedine Zidane could reevaluate a player he clearly hasn’t been a fan of previously.

There’s a chance this is all a bargaining stance from Madrid, trying to get either Arsenal or Betis to pay more for a loan or a permanent deal, by creating a scenario which suggests Los Blancos would like to keep him.
