As has been widely reported, one of the strikers Manchester United are targeting these days is Rasmus Højlund.

The Danish striker has impressed since moving to Atalanta last summer, and the Serie A club, although not overly keen about selling him so quickly, know that the prospect of a great profit is on the horizon.

That’s why Corriere di Bergamo have an article on the situation on Friday following claims that Atalanta refused a first offer of €35m for their starlet.

They explain ‘the bidder has still remained secret’, but there are some who suspect it was sent from Manchester United, as the player is a ‘very sensitive target’ for the club.

Regarding the requests from Atalanta’s end, the newspaper report that ‘the accounts are not yet clear’, and they are waiting to see if an auction can kick off before setting a price.

However, the realistic valuation is ‘about €50m plus substantial bonuses’, with them wanting the deal to reach ‘around €70-75m’.

In short, they are eyeing up something similar to the one Manchester United struck with AS Monaco for Anthony Martial all those years ago, which included clauses involving Ballon d’Or wins alongside others involving trophy victories as long as the player is in the squad.

Despite the desire to keep him, they know that ‘some situations can instead become unrepeatable’, and the train may pass only once to sell him for such an amount.

Højlund, down his end, ‘will not push to leave’.
