Espanyol started the New Year with a draw against Barcelona, but the point didn’t help them out of crisis as they’re still bottom of the table. Their failure to score regularly has seen them target a new number 9 in the winter market.
On December 27th, we carried a report from El Desmarque, who explained Espanyol and Deportivo La Coruña are keen on signing Swansea City’s Borja Bastón.
The same enthusiasm is not shown by today’s edition of Mundo Deportivo, who state Raúl de Tomás is the main target for Espanyol and the Benfica forward is open to the idea of returning to the La Liga.
However, the operation to sign 25-year-old is not simple for various reasons, including Sevilla’s interest.
Apart from Raúl de Tomás, there have been suggestions about Swansea’s Bastón, Lokomotiv Moscow’s Fyodor Smolov, Getafe’s Enric Gallego, Valencia’s Rubén Sobrino and Real Madrid’s Mariano Díaz.
Mundo adds the Championship player and other forwards are considered as alternatives to Raúl de Tomás.
Bastón has six goals and one assist in 19 league appearances for Swansea this season and his contract at the Liberty Stadium expires in the summer.
