Atlético Madrid are ‘confident’ they will secure the signing of Boubacar Kamara from Marseille, even though Aston Villa are pushing for his signature.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who say the Spanish side believe a verbal agreement with the midfielder will be honoured.
They explain that Diego Simeone’s side have several targets for the upcoming summer transfer window, and improving the midfield is one of them.
On that front, they have ‘taken steps’ to sign Kamara, who will be available on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the season.
They ‘trust the verbal agreement that was closed with him’ earlier this year will be fulfilled, and he will end up signing at the Wanda Metropolitano and not head to Aston Villa.
They are pushing for his signature as well, with reports in England even claiming that they have managed to surpass Atlético in the race for the midfielder’s signature.
Steven Gerrard was also seen personally scouting the player, something that could weigh heavily in his thinking.
What Aston Villa don’t have, though, is a verbal agreement with Kamara, something that Atlético have seemingly managed to secure.
It is because of that they are confident the ‘ground that had been won’ in recent months will be ‘respected’, and he will end up as a Colchonero and not a Villan.
