In May of this year, Leeds United announced Oriol Rey had signed a new two year contract with the club.

The Championship club sounded genuinely pleased to have secured the midfielder’s services for longer, and it felt like he could be on the verge of a breakthrough at Elland Road.

Therefore, exit rumours have come as something of a surprise, but in Spain there’s clear confidence that Rey will be leaving Leeds United soon and moving back to Spanish football.

Starting his career with Barcelona and going through La Masia, Rey signed for Leeds on a free transfer in July 2017.

The 20 year old is now expected to join lower division club Conquense, who Mundo Deportivo say are ‘about to close the signing’.

There’s no explanation from the Catalan newspaper on whether Rey will be moving on a loan or permanent deal.

If it’s a temporary transfer then the renewal in May would make more sense.
