Arsenal and Chelsea’s apparent interest in Luis Campos has been seen as a ploy by Paris Saint Germain to speed up renewal talks with the director of football.

That’s according to L’Equipe, who say the recent reports of interest from Arsenal and Chelsea is being treated as an attempt to put pressure on PSG.

The newspaper reports that Campos has shown signs of frustration in the last few weeks as he wants to renew his deal with the French giants. He is comfortable in Paris, with the Parisian project, and is keen to ‘extend his mission’.

He would like that set in stone and quickly, but PSG are yet to get negotiations sorted. That led to reports this week that Arsenal and Chelsea were interested, while there is reportedly a €200m, 10-year deal on the table from Saudi Arabia.

Some of PSG’s employees saw that ‘supposed interest’, and the latter’s ‘lavish’ offer, as a sign that ‘pressure was being brought’ to bear.

The decision makers at the club believe Campos wants to speed up the timetable for negotiations and push them to really lay the cards on the table. In other words, he’s using Arsenal and Chelsea to get his way.

Whether that is successful remains to be seen but the feeling among PSG’s hierarchy is that the Premier League duo’s names are being used by Campos to further his own ends.
