Fulham striker Rodrigo Muniz has insisted he is more than happy with his situation at the club but does want to play in Europe at some point.
GE Globo have an interview with the striker today in which he talks about life at Fulham, his plans for the future and relationship with fellow Brazilians in England.
The striker was one of the stars of the season for Fulham last season, bagging ten goals and one assists in 33 games in all competitions.
He had established himself as the number one striker under Marco Silva but has found himself behind Raul Jimenez this season, with just six starts in 27 games in the Premier League to date.
That’s not stopped him from contributing, though, as he’s managed eight goals, and one assists in 29 games so far despite playing less than 1000 minutes overall.
Some players would be unhappy with the lack of minutes, but he insists that isn’t the case and he’s delighted with the numbers he’s managing.
“Of course I want to play every game. It’s just that, with the numbers I have, I feel more of a player than I was last year,” he said.
“I feel more confident and calmer about the decisions I make on the pitch. I feel more experienced than I did last year. For things to get on track, you just have to be patient and wait. And keep working.
“I think that, compared to last season, this time I feel more confident and like a Premier League player. I’ve been training hard, waiting for my chance. I’ve started nine games and have eight goals this season. I think the numbers are good. Of course I have to start more games, but that’s not up to me or Raúl. It’s up to Marco Silva.
“I’ve shown in training that I deserve it, Raúl is having a very good season, both of them have good numbers. It’s a headache for the coach.”
While he doesn’t appear to be pushing for a move, questions will be asked about Muniz’s future at Fulham this summer, nonetheless.
The 23-year-old enters the final year of his contract this summer and while Fulham have an option to extend it, they are yet to activate it.
They may value selling Muniz this summer instead and ensuring they can get a profit on the €8m they paid for him in 2021 rather than leaving him with one year, or two years left on his deal.
Muniz is not getting involved in that but does admit he would like to play in Europe soon, something which may be possible with Fulham anyway.
“I hope to finish the season well, I’ve left this question of a contract with my manager, but I do have dreams of playing in the Champions League and the Europa League,” he added.
“I’m sure that if I keep doing my job and helping Fulham, things will happen. It could even happen this year. If we continue to do well, we could be in with a chance of Europe there.”
