Last week, we covered a reliable report from Brazil which said West Ham have made an offer to the former Shakhtar Donetsk winger Bernard.
With the player letting his contract with the Ukrainian side expire this summer, he’s now free to sign for any club, which doesn’t mean he will be a cheap arrival.
Bernard’s demands are pretty big, as reported by newspaper Record today. The Portuguese outlet has a story about Benfica’s chase for the player, and the numbers are quite impressive.
According to Record, Bernard is demanding €10m just as a signing prize. In terms of wages, he wants €3m net per season.
Benfica can’t match that, as they only offer €7m in bonuses plus a salary of €2.2m. That’s why they’re afraid Bernard would accept an offer from elsewhere.
But it also sounds a high figure for West Ham, given Bernard has seen his star slip a little.
