Despite Chelsea’s good start of season, it’s been a hard couple of months for Willian. The player, who lost his mother in October, has been a substitute and was one of the many Brazilian footballers who had compatriots lose their lives in Chapecoense’s accident.

The midfielder gave an interview to ESPN Brasil this week, and commented on some of these events. For those who can watch the interview, you can see in his eyes that the struggle is real.

Speaking of the tragedy, he said: “It’s something that shocked. I think it shocked everyone. Players, everyone. We end up with a little fear of getting on the plane.”

Willain’s last Premier League start was on October 1st. He’s been only playing as a substitute since then, and explained the reason why it’s been hard for him: “Everyone knows the difficult moment I’ve been through. Even emotionally. I lost three or four kilos for my mother’s loss. It was really quite difficult. So I think it’s time to recover, to gain confidence again, to train well, to enter in the games little by little.”

On the possibilities of getting back to the starting team, Willian agreed that Antonio Conte won’t make many changes while the team is winning: “Of course. I think all the players are playing well, the team is in a very good sequence. I will continue working in training, if I come on in the second half, or if I start, I will always try to give my best on the pitch.”

Willian has three goals in eleven Premier League appearances this season.
