Manchester City were not on the official list of scouts who watched the Lisbon derby last weekend. But it doesn’t mean the club didn’t have a representative there.

That’s what A Bola are saying today. The story, which makes the front page, claims that City sent a ‘high official’ to watch the goalkeeper Ederson and become more aware of his transfer conditions.

Scouts obviously don’t negotiate, so given Pep Guardiola’s high interest in the goalkeeper, the club chose a more important official instead.

But there won’t be any bargain in this case. It’s quite simple for Benfica.

Ederson has a €30m release clause, and despite having a low salary, the talks of a new contract are stalled for now. So unless things change, the price won’t go above €30m, and Benfica won’t want it to go below that either.

CapturarBesides City, Barcelona are also said be gathering information about the goalkeeper.

Manchester City’s interest in Ederson has been reported since Pep Guardiola’s arrival at the club. The manager was impressed with one of the player’s performances against Bayern Munich last season, and it’s claimed he’s kept an eye on him since then.

According to A Bola, Ederson got himself an European passport two months ago, so despite being Brazilian, a work permit in England wouldn’t be a problem.

It seems a rather big splash from A Bola based on very little. They won’t let go of claims that Guardiola wants to sign Ederson, similar to the claims about Grimaldo.

Maybe he’ll sign them both in January. If not, the stories will almost certainly continue.
