Despite the likes of Kurt Zouma and Andreas Christensen already being at the club, it seems Chelsea aren’t quite done with their centre-back recruiting, even with Antonio Conte widely expected to leave come the end of the season.

With both Gary Cahill and David Luis on the wrong side of 30 for footballers, rejuvenating the defence has already started, with the arrival of Antonio Rüdiger, but an extra body might not hurt, which is where Malang Sarr comes in.

Linked with Chelsea about a year ago, the young centre-back hasn’t quite kicked on as expected, falling out of favour at Nice after a 3-0 loss to Monaco last year.

Used far more sporadically by Lucien Favre this time around, the 19-year-old has also been used at left-back a few times, being left-footed and all.

And it appears Chelsea are still keeping an eye on him in some shape or form, as, according to Nice Matin, a Stamford Bridge scout was sent to watch the aforementioned European competition game on Thursday night.

However, his report might not have been the best, as Sarr gave away a penalty just before half-time when Nice were 2-0 up, with the game ending 3-2 in the Russians’ favour following a Racine Coly red card.

Among the other players on display were Jean-Michael Seri, Wylan Cyprien, Allan Saint-Maximin and Alassane Pléa.
