Earlier today we covered claims from German newspaper Bild that Christopher Nkunku underwent a medical with Chelsea during the summer.

That was said to be ahead of a potential future move, with the RB Leipzig player having a €60m release clause which is applicable in the next summer window.

RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins now reports Chelsea have reached an ‘agreement in principle’ with the player for a move next summer. Hawkins backs up that the player has already had medical tests with the Blues, but he says these weren’t in Frankfurt, which contradicts some of the claims from Bild.

As long as Chelsea have an agreement with the player and are willing to pay the €60m then a transfer looks relatively straightforward for the Premier League club. Liverpool are also said to be keen on the signing but at this stage it looks like the London club are pushing ahead and are in the lead.

Independently, Fussball Transfers report Chelsea are confident of winning the race, but Liverpool and Real Madrid haven’t given up.
