Chelsea have withdrawn their interest in Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele, despite making an offer for him in the January transfer window.
That’s according to Sport, who say the situation around Roman Abramovich means ‘everything has come to a standstill’ at Stamford Bridge.
As you’ll be aware by now, Dembele is out of contract at the Nou Camp this summer, and so far, there have been no indications he will be extending his deal.
That means he will be available on a free transfer in the summer, and a whole host of European clubs have lined up to secure his signature.
Their interest came via manager Thomas Tuchel, who worked with Dembele at Borussia Dortmund and was believed to be keen on a reunion in London.
Indeed, at one point, it was claimed that Chelsea pretty much had a deal done, but it seems things have now changed.
Sport report that Dembele’s ‘future is still open’ and while there are still interested parties, several have ‘already withdrawn from negotiations’ and Chelsea are one of them.
According to the newspaper, the Blues are ‘not sure about him’ despite the fact that they ‘made an offer for him in January’.
That’s largely down to the situation around Abramovich, who has put Chelsea up for sale amid the ongoing sanctions against Russia and it’s citizens following the invasion of Ukraine.
His decision to sell has ‘created many doubts’ about the future of the club and while that is uncertain, ‘what is clear’ is that ‘everything has come to a standstill’ until further notice.
That means any transfer business is not on the table at this moment in time, and the interest in Dembele has been firmly shelved ‘until further notice’.
