Kepa Arrizabalaga has managed to get ahead of Édouard Mendy to become the first-choice goalkeeper at Chelsea this season.

That hasn’t stopped the Blues from looking at a new stopper, if a report from Sport1 is to be believed.

They state Chelsea are courting Borussia Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel and have put out feelers for him.

Graham Potter’s side were able to take a closer look at the Switzerland international during their Champions League tie against BVB. The Blues sealed a 2-0 win at home and this tie allowed Kobel’s camp to hold talks with Chelsea in London.

Sport1 chief reporter Patrick Berger has provided more information on the Blues’ interest in the 25-year-old.

“Kobel’s performances have aroused desires. Especially at Manchester United and Chelsea. We have now found out that before the BVB game in London there was a meeting with an advisor from Kobel’s agency and with people from Chelsea who are very interested,” Berger said.

“David De Gea is 32 and won’t be playing for United forever. Chelsea aren’t really convinced of Kepa either. Both clubs want someone between the posts who is number one for the next eight, nine or ten years. So, there was an exchange in London, it’s part of the business.”

Kobel’s deal lasts until 2026 and he earns €3.5m net per year. Chelsea or another club would have to spend around €40-50m to take him away from the Bundesliga side.
