Regardless of how many times those who actually have a say in the potential transfer deny it, Cesc Fabregas to AC Milan remains a thing in the Italian press.
Vincenzo Montella recently came out to explain he wasn’t interested in the Spanish midfielder but that hasn’t detracted the likes of Corriere dello Sport on Thursday.
The Italian newspaper report that the Serie A club are still keen on Fabregas, especially since AC Milan’s director of football Massimiliano Mirabelli attended Chelsea-Leicester at the weekend.
This has led Corriere to assume Cesc Fabregas was on the agenda, and that there would be ‘no special obstacles’ standing in the way of a loan move to Italy for the Spaniard in January.
That is, however, unless Chelsea create one in the shape of Alessio Romagnoli.
The London club were, and still are, very interested in the young Italian centre-back, and Antonio Conte would be willing to try and get a swap deal sorted with AC Milan, rather than just a temporary deal for Fabregas.
Corriere reckon that while the Chelsea midfielder would be the perfect signing for AC Milan to show their new ambition, involving Romagnoli in any deal is out of the question as he is the future of their defence.
Having already rejected €40m for the youngster in the summer, the Serie A side have made their point very clear.
This most certainly isn’t the end of this story, sadly, and expect more ‘updates’ in coming days.
