Premier League duo Everton and Chelsea are both ‘keenly interested’ in Barcelona midfielder Gavi, should the Catalans decide to sell him this summer.
That’s according to Sport, who say Barcelona have received offers of €40m in the past and considered a sale at one point.
They report that there was ‘serious talk’ at the Camp Nou about the possibility of selling Gavi in the past, with the club having received proposals of €40m via intermediaries.
The desperate financial situation at the club caused them to consider the possibility of selling the midfielder, even though it was ‘absolutely unpopular’ throughout the club.
That led to several clubs showing an interest in Gavi, with Bayern, Chelsea and Everton all said to be ‘keenly interested’ in the player from Los Palacios.
The Premier League duo, in particular, were thought to be keen as they see Gavi’s skill set and physical abilities perfect for England’s top flight.
It’s not stated if either of them made a bid or were one of those putting forward €40m via intermediaries, just that they were keen to know about the 17-year-old’s future.
The situation has now changed as Barcelona have decided to sell Frenkie de Jong instead, putting him up for sale for a price between €60-70m.
He’s now set to leave if someone offers that figure, which seems likely to happen, and so Gavi will no longer be considered for sale.
Indeed, those closest to him believe he is best served continuing his development in Barcelona, and a departure does not seem imminent, especially with the club including him in photo sessions for next season’s kit.
Things can always change, of course, so we’ll keep an eye out for any talks of Chelsea and Everton reviving their interest in Gavi in the near and distant future.
