Earlier in August, Celtic defender Dedryck Boyata’s agent revealed, or claimed, he’d received “several offers” from Premier League clubs in the summer, which were not answered by the Scottish Premiership club.
The 27-year-old continued to be linked with a move to Spain until the La Liga transfer window closed, but Brendan Rodgers’ side were successful in keeping the centre-back, who has less than a year left on his contract, at the club.
He reportedly refused to play for Celtic as his first match of this season was at the end of August and since then, he’s made nine appearances for the Hoops in all competitions.
Belgian newspaper Gazet van Antwerpen reports that Fulham were one of the clubs and after overcoming summer’s disappointment, Boyata reveals that he was left with no choice but to turn things around for himself at Celtic.
“I do not want to talk about it anymore. I am currently a Celtic player, that is what counts. I have a wife, a family: I had no other choice but to quickly turn the button and use it for one hundred percent,” the centre-back explained.
“It has gone well in recent months. Physically, the Scottish league is not the easiest competition, but I work hard for it.”
Boyata’s currently on international duty with Belgium and is likely to start against the Netherlands on Tuesday. Gazet van Antwerpen points out an impressive performance for De Rode Duivels could only improve his chances of attracting interest from other clubs.
Should Celtic sell in January, they’ll want as much interest as possible to drive the price up.
