With Celtic’s Matt O’Riley missing out on Denmark’s squad for the Euros, his absence is still a subject in the local media.
Newspaper Ekstra Bladet today features a story on the Celtic star, as assistant manager Morten Wieghorst ended up talking a little about him.
The coach, who travelled to Glasgow to present O’Riley’s Player of the Year award, tried to justify why he stayed out of the squad, and even claimed that Celtic may lose him this summer.
“I think I can separate things. We’re looking at the football aspect. What could he give us? Who is he up against?
Just yesterday, former Denmark star Nicklas Bendtner claimed that the national team were actually correct to leave O’Riley out of the squad, mostly because he hasn’t proved himself in a better league.
The 23-year-old had a great season for Celtic, though, with 19 goals and 18 assists in 49 appearances, leading him to the league and cup titles.
The midfielder, who cost the Hoops only €1.8m when joining from MK Dons in January 2022, is now valued by Transfermarkt at €20m.
So despite having his contract running until 2027, it indeed seems like a summer departure from Celtic Park is a big possibility.
