Tottenham Hotspur were successful in overcoming competition from Barcelona to sign Lucas Bergvall. Earlier this month, Spurs agreed a deal with Swedish side Djurgårdens IF for the 18-year-old to arrive at the north London club in the summer.

Prior to agreeing a deal with Ange Postecoglou’s side, the midfielder made a trip to Barcelona, to hold talks with them and also look at their facilities.

The Spanish press later accused him of using the La Liga side to get a better proposal from Tottenham. Former Barca scout Bojan Krkić Sr was even critical of Bergvall for reportedly letting his mother and girlfriend influence his decision to join Spurs.

Speaking to Sportbladet, the Sweden international has made it clear that he doesn’t focus on these reports.

“It’s not something I spend a lot of time on. They can write and say what they want. I know what’s right. I try not to put too much energy into it,” he said.

When asked if it could be out of ‘bitterness’ because Barca failed to secure his services, Bergvall explained: “That can be the case, absolutely. I don’t know.”

The youngster will continue to represent Djurgårdens IF until he moves to Tottenham in the summer. He’s signed a five-year deal with the Premier League side and is pleased that his future has now been sorted out.

“There was a lot going on in my head in general, a lot of speculation back and forth on social media. A lot of people wondered, but it’s nice that everything has settled down and that I can focus only on Djurgården,” the Swede added.

“It’s nice to get the last six months here with Djurgården and hopefully win a cup. I try not to think too much about injuries, if it happens, it happens.”

The player was asked if he’s currently in contact with Tottenham. Responding to that, he said: “They try to keep their distance. It’s clear that we are in contact and they are trying to fix everything around me, but not so much about football.”

Bergvall has revealed his family will accompany him when he moves to London.
