Luis Diaz’s great start at Liverpool hasn’t only made him a sensation in the Premier League, but in his home country of Colombia as well.
The winger had already become the national team’s biggest star while showing his potential at FC Porto, and following his move to Anfield in January, he reached a new level where his compatriots won’t stop talking about him.
So Diaz was now a subject on ESPN, in their Latin America show Balon Dividido. There, former Colombian striker Víctor Hugo Aristizabal had a few words on Diaz and explained why the Liverpool player has had such a great first few months in the Premier League.
“The thing about Luis Diaz goes through trust. When you have it, things come naturally and that’s what he has, plus his charisma leads him to get closer to what they want,” said Aristizabal (via Futbol Red).
“Today I dare to say that he’s above Diogo Jota, who is the third attacker after Mane and Salah.”
Aristizabal also explained that Diaz was physically ready to play in English football, and that’s why it didn’t take long until he could show his skills for Jurgen Klopp’s side. The former striker also said the 25-year-old should improve his finishing.
“For me the most important thing in football today is the physical part and it’s worse in England because it’s very competitive there. This boy is very well prepared physically and that helps him a lot, he has personality, he dribbles and he’s always running.
“English football needs it, Luis Diaz has it, suddenly he can improve the scoring part a bit and it’s not easy at all, but surely this team will help him a lot because he attacks a lot and reaches the box a lot. In just three months he has already adapted, the rest are details.”
Since joining Liverpool in February, Diaz has four goals and three assists, and is one of their main weapons in their quest for the quadruple this season.
