Leicester City defender Wout Faes has revealed manager Brendan Rodgers was key to his arrival at the club, even calling him ‘two or three times’ to convince him.
Faes was a late arrival from Reims in the summer transfer window, joining in a €17m deal from the Ligue 1 side after Wesley Fofana joined Chelsea.
He’s been a key player from that point, establishing himself in the heart of Leicester’s defence and making 17 appearances in the Premier League this season.
Indeed, his introduction into the team helped to arrest a poor start to the season, with the Belgian providing a steady influence in the backline.
He’s quickly established himself as a favourite and proven that Leicester’s transfer business, which has been questioned in recent seasons, can still be successful.
“For me, the most important thing was to know that I was going to start in the matches and that I continue to learn to become even better,” he told Le Soir.
“With the coach, we had the opportunity to discuss before my arrival. He called me two or three times. He defined the project and his way of playing. He told me he was counting on me.
“For him, it was important to have a guy behind able to defend while advancing and to lead the team. These are two elements that are part of my game.
“I think I’m helping the team… and fulfilling the coach’s instructions. So yes, everything is fine…”
