Burnley exit denied for player as Clarets are ‘late with the papers’ – Late deadline day departure cancelled

PSV Eindhoven failed with a late bid for Burnley defender CJ Egan-Riley as the Clarets were ‘late with the papers’.

That’s according to journalist Marco Timmer, who say it is Burnley’s fault that the player never ended up at the Dutch club before last night’s deadline.

The Dutch club were keen to add a defender to their squad throughout the summer after Jarrad Branthwaite returned to Everton following his successful loan spell last season.

It was made clear throughout that a permanent move for him wasn’t happening and so they targeted several different players instead, eventually making a late move for Burnley defender CJ Egan-Riley.

A report last night stated PSV were pushing for a loan deal for the 20-year-old, having initially shown an interest in him all the way back in the January transfer window.

It was unclear what Burnley’s stance on the matter was at that point and the deal eventually didn’t happen, with Egan-Riley remaining at Turf Moor.

Timmer now explains that was because of Burnley, reporting that he asked again this morning what happened in the deal and was told that ‘Burnley were late with the papers’.

That information comes from ‘sources around Egan-Riley’ according to the journalist, suggesting the player and his camp are less than happy with how things have turned out.

At this point, anyway, it appears Burnley were late submitting the paperwork on their end and that saw the potential deadline day move collapse at the last hour.
