Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte comes up today with an excellent story about the details of Alisson’s move to Liverpool.
Starting from the beginning, the website claims that the deal has been negotiated for the past six months, with the player’s staff being pretty much convinced about the move since the initial talks.
There were some special points that convinced Alisson and his entourage. Jurgen Klopp’s chemistry with Fenway Sports Group, the club’s investments and their academy integration would be some of them.
Globo Esporte claims the only factor that could stop the deal was Real Madrid, and even Alisson’s staff admitted that. The problem is the Galacticos tried to get the player just with their ‘shirt’, offering only €40m.
Roma kept holding the player, expecting Real Madrid to outbid Liverpool so the Reds could raise their offer, but that never happened. It was actually Chelsea who came up with a good bid of €50m, but that was still not enough. The Anfield Road side got the signing for an initial €62.5m plus €12.5m in bonuses.
Besides the auction, Liverpool still had the advantage over other clubs. In Real Madrid’s case, the Spanish side apparently didn’t have a clear plan to make the transition with Keylor Navas, who despite not being a hero to the club’s board, is much liked between squad leaders Marcelo and Sergio Ramos. At Liverpool, Alisson would have no problem to start the season as first choice.
Alisson also didn’t like that Zinedine Zidane and Cristiano Ronaldo didn’t have their future at the La Liga club very clear. And regarding Chelsea, the lack of Champions League football is something that left them behind.
Globo Esporte claims that people who work with Alisson consider Jurgen Klopp the ‘central figure’ for the move to Liverpool, especially for having spoken to Alisson on the phone and personally before signing the contract.
