Back at the start of the month, when Portuguese newspaper A Bola featured a story saying Benfica were trying to extend João Neves’ contract with the club, it was claimed that Wolverhampton Wanderers were keen on his signing.

The outlet said that since the player has a €60m release clause, that could turn into ‘attractive business’ to the clubs who want him.

A Bola is back today to say Benfica and Neves are about to agree a new contract, and that’s not the only bad news that Wolves will be getting.

Their report claims that his release clause will be raised from €60m to €100m, as they want to protect him from the interested clubs. The extension should be sorted as soon as he’s back from the U-21 Euro.

Wolves once again get a mention, with the story saying the Molineux side, along with Bayern Munich are ‘attentive’ to Neves’ evolution.

Now those clubs are set to have a much harder task to negotiating for the player, because even though Benfica may not ask for all those €100m, they will still have a big margin to operate and get as much as possible.
