Usually when Christian Eriksen arrives in Denmark for international duty, the media rush to him with questions like: ‘Hey Christian, you’re doing superbly for Tottenham, do you think you can transfer that to Denmark? Please.’

This time around it’s slightly different, with Eriksen being asked to explain what’s going on with his Tottenham form. Not managing to find the net for Mauricio Pochettino’s men since March, the player has already suggested there seems to be something voodoo about it.

Speaking to Ekstra Bladet, Eriksen was honest that his form hasn’t been what may be expected, especially after Tottenham’s last season: “It’s been a bit volatile. It has been for the whole team.”

Despite Tottenham being undefeated in the league, there have been too many draws, and the Champions League has been a disappointment so far, with Eriksen saying: “It’s been a very long stretch with many draws and then just a few defeats that have done much harm to us.

“It’s difficult to get into the rhythm when there are so many matches… But against Arsenal we created chances and that’s probably a match we should have won.”

Eriksen hit the Screen Shot 2016-11-08 at 13.29.41post in Tottenham’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal, which prompted the voodoo comments from yesterday, but he generally feels there’s been bad luck for the whole team, something which will hopefully change.

Whilst conceding his form has been up and down, Eriksen still believes that generally he’s been playing fine, but the lack of assists and goals sees the perception as negative: “Throughout the season it has been a little inconsistent and I have lacked the goals that you are evaluated on worldwide. If you do not have an assist or score, you get low grades from the press.

“It’s how football is. Game wise it’s been slightly below average in some periods, but at other times it’s been fine. The goals have just been lacking.”

Denmark would dearly love Eriksen to find his goalscoring touch around about now. The country’s World Cup qualifying campaign is already looking bleak and they need to win games.
