Sadio Mane’s transfer to Bayer Munich is closing in, and he’s set to end what has been a very successful period for him with Liverpool.

The Reds won’t have been keen sellers, but given the player’s contract was set to expire in June 2024 they had little option but to listen to offers. Losing Mane as a free agent, and potentially Mohamed Salah too, would simply have been a scenario the club didn’t want.

After weeks of negotiations, Bild reported Bayern are set to pay an initial €32m fee, with a further €9m possible in bonus payments. Hasan Salihamidžić is said to have agreed the deal for the Bundesliga club at a meeting in Manchester with Julian Ward.

Florian Plettenberg, who broke the news of an agreed deal on Friday, now reports Mane will have his medical with Bayern next week. The club are treating the signing as a big deal, and he’s set for a presentation, which could happen on Wednesday.

For Bayern it’s a stance of ‘big stage, big transfer’, and the presentation could therefore be at the Allianz Arena.
