Everton remain ‘interested’ in Steven Bergwijn, but he does not want the move to Goodison Park.

That’s according to journalist Freek Jansen, who does not expect a potential move to Ajax to be ruined by the Toffees.

Bergwijn has been heavily linked with a move away from Tottenham since the January transfer window when Ajax first made their interest clear.

They were unable to get a deal done at that point but have remained keen on a potential deal this summer, particularly with Ajax undergoing their yearly overhaul.

Everton had been pulled into the mix over the last two weeks, with it explained they were wiling to pay a bigger transfer fee and wages in an attempt to trump Ajax for him.

It was, however, made clear that he would prefer a move to the Netherlands should he move this summer, as Ajax can offer him Champions League football.

Jansen has now covered the situation, explaining that Everton being willing to pay a higher transfer fee is probably just because it would be a Premier League-based transfer.

“I think that’s about the domestic transfer, which makes it higher,” Ajax Showtime report him saying to Voetbalpraat.

“He really wants to go to Ajax himself. He has made that known for a long time, also within the club. There now finally seems to be progress. He has put his teeth into a transfer to Ajax. He is really eager to start at Ajax..

“They see him for four positions, which gives luxury. I don’t think he’s a number ten, but he can do well in the other three positions up front.

“It remains to be seen what you have in attack at Ajax on September 1st. If you have Antony, Tadić, Ihattaren, maybe Brobbey and Bergwijn, then it becomes very interesting.

“Thirty million is a lot of money. I think he’s almost worth that money in a two-striker system. He has distinguished himself very much in the Dutch national team.

“It seems like he has played that all his life. There I think he’s worth the amount, but Ajax almost never plays like that. As a left-winger, I do think it’s a lot of money.”
